Unhappy with the Look of Your Lips?
The lips are a central part of the face and an important feature of femininity and attractiveness. Lips come in various sizes and shapes but there are certain characteristics that make lips attractive and in balance with the rest of the face.
The Benefits of a Lip Lift
Lip augmentation is commonly used to treat smaller lips to give them more shape and size. Our expertise in beauty has shown that attractive lips are not just bigger lips. In fact, overly large lips can look unnatural and cheap. Dr. Jumaily has specialized training and expertise in what makes lip feminine. If you look at any face of a model that people find attractive, you will notice that there is a special relationship between the lips, upper teeth, and size of the lips.
Is a Lip Lift Right for Me?
If the skin of the upper lip is too long, and there is no upper tooth show when the mouth is slightly open, then augmentation is the wrong treatment. Augmentation will make the lips look larger but not attractive. There is a role for augmentation for patients who have thinner lips but a lip lift is needed to address the length. Lip lift will serve to shorten the upper lip, ‘roll out’ the lip which will increase the amount of red lip show and allow for that just right amount of upper tooth show. Dr. Jumaily has over the years refined his technique to produce this attractive relationship that looks natural, sexy, and feminine.

How is lip lift done?Dr. Jumaily has refined the technique of a lip lift to give the best natural results, hide the incision, and minimize recovery. Lip lift is done through a small incision hidden in the crease under the nose. The incision is sometimes extended inside the nostril for certain patients with favorable anatomy. The incision is closed with tiny sutures which are left there for approx. 1 week. The procedure is done under local anesthesia or general anesthesia depending on patient preference.
What is the recovery after a lip lift?Dr. Jumaily is an expert in this type of procedure using the most advanced, effective and meticulous technique. The recovery is generally easy. There mild to no discomfort for 1-2 days initially. There is minimal swelling and rarely any bruising. The sutures are removed around day 7. Initially the incision can appear red as it is healing but this subsides week by week. Dr. Jumaily follows his patients very closely to ensure everything is healing optimally. As a general rule, the incision is hard to see after 6-8 weeks but results can vary depending on the individual.

Should a lip lift be done at the same time as rhinoplasty? We do rhinoplasty and lip lift together all the time. It does not have to be done together but most patients prefer it that way to save recovery time and also operating room costs.
Is there a way to perform small lip lift without cutting near the nose? The short answer is probably not. If you find the incision under the nose too bothersome (because you worry that it changes the nose) then you should probably pass on this procedure. Making an incision in mid lip is not a good idea. The subnasal incision is the most hidden and often unnoticeable when it heals.
What changes do you observe in the nostrils after a lip lift?We have done many many lip lifts and if done well, there should not be any noticeable change to the nose. You can have alar base reduction at the same time if you wish to narrow your nostrils.
If considering a lip lift and revision rhinoplasty, does it matter what order you do it in?It does not matter which one you do first. Ideally you can do it at the same time to save yourself the trouble of recovering twice. If you do the rhinoplasty first, wait 2-3 months or until the swelling comes down in columella/upper lip. Sometimes swelling goes down quickly and you don’t have to wait that long.
I want to correct the distance between my nose and lips, am I a good candidate for a Lip Lift?A well done lip lift should be subtle and natural appearing. We measure it accurately and do it delicately to leave almost no scars and looks very natural. A consultation is the best way to determine if you are a candidate.
Do I need a lip lift and/or augmentation?Lip lift will help you have more upper tooth show at rest which is youthful and feminine. Augmentation may or may not be needed afterwards but often they are not needed but ultimately depends on your and your surgeons preferences and mutual decision.
Do Lip Lifts Look Natural? The short answer is yes. If the incisions are placed in the right location, the amount of skin removed is appropriate, the closure is done meticulously, and the patient is a good candidate. The absolute length of the upper lip skin does not matter. what matters is the proportion of this to the face and important, the degree of upper tooth show. It can look unnatural if done on the wrong person or done too aggressively.
Can a Lip Lift Be Performed with Rhinoplasty? The incisions for a rhinoplasty and lip lift are not the same incision, they are close but not in the same location. We do many simultaneous lip lift and rhinoplasty and it is actually preferred to do them at the same time as the patient can combine the recovery and save in the operating room costs. The combined procedure does not compromise the nose or lip results and it’s equally safe.
